Beyond Farm to Table

EatSafe.tech is building the future of food traceability — from seed to stomach, and every step in between.

Our Vision

We believe food safety should be transparent, trustworthy, and accessible to everyone — from small farmers to processors to foragers to James Beard award winning chefs. Our platform lowers barriers of entry and empowers producers, transporters, retailers, and consumers to track and verify every step of the food journey from seed to stomach. We believe there should be no food deserts and That access to affordable fresh food is a human right, not a privilege for those who live in certain areas or have the means to afford it.

Imagine a world where you can scan a product and know exactly where it came from, the conditions it was raised or grown in, how it was handled, and whether the safety and sustainability meet your standards. A world where you are empowered to make informed food decisions. A world where chefs can trust that the premium cuts of meat are what the vendor says they are. That the grocer can KNOW those onions are pesticide free.

Our Mission

We're making that vision real, with IoT infrastructure that can handle custom or off the shelf sensors, utilizing technology that works quietly in the background to monitor your food environments. With Enterprise quality software that is secure and scalable and helps you pull it all together and navigate the regulations that your business must comply with in order to operate legally. Our platform gives you the tools to give you customers data insight to know their food is safe and put their mind at ease, without needing to hire an entire IT organization to setup a data collection network.

Use Cases

Farmers

Keep track of your consumables, inventory, tractor maintenance, harvest data, and all your temperature and moisture sensors. See gate sensors and video from RTSP cameras. Keep track of FSMA data such as KDEs, CTEs, and TLCs, all in one place. Do you have a very large farm? We also support LoRaWAN, RT+/DECT, and other long range wireless protocols as well as cellular and satellite connectivity. Generate instant online reports for FDA inspectors at the press of a button, with ready to send email templates including links to the report. Upload pics of the cucumbers before you harvest them. Take a picture of Henrietta so your customers know their eggs come from a happy free range hen. When you ship your strawberries using a logistics company on our site (or use our software to do your own logistics if you want) the data transfers seamlessly. If you sell to someone NOT using out platform, first tell them how great it is and they should start using it, then send them the data in standard GS1 EPCIS 2.0 signed format that they can import into their system.

Logistics

Picking up some strawberries from a farmer using our system? They have TLCs and maybe even temperature RFID chips on them (yes we have temperature RFID end to end if everyone in the chain of custody uses our system or can import into it.) So if you have our RFID Temperature scanner in your truck, the cabin temp as well as the temperature for each individual lot code will be recorded along with GPS coordinates. If you attach our OBD connector we can also upload your vehicle telemetry and use machine learning to suggest when preventative maintenance is necessary to prevent equipment failure. Picking up food from a restaurant on our system to deliver it to someone's house? Yeah we have an app for that AND it can connect to off the shelf temperature sensors. Grab an insulated bag or cooler, put one of our sensors or an off the shelf Thread/Matter sensor in it, connect it to our app and the temperature and GPS of the food will be uploaded to the server, allowing the customer to watch their dinner stay warm as it is delivered to them. If you're a retailer using our delivery app, you no longer have the "GrubHub Hole" to deal with, where you have no control of the customer experience your customers have. Make sure they don't get mad at your because their GH driver had 3 other stops before dropping of their, now cold, food.

Processing

This is a very important piece of the puzzle, because if all the Lot Codes go in here and different Lot Codes come out, and there's no way to connect them, it causes massive problems during a recall. Any bagged salad made from tainted lettuce must be tossed, but if you packaged 100,000 bags that day and can't prove which has lettuce from the few dozen tainted heads... it all has to be thrown out. That's a lot of wasted food and money. Our software can help you associate multiple parent lot codes into a single product, which gets a new lot code that can be traced back to the food. This not only helps during recalls, but lets you prove that your bread really is made from organic wheat, and your spinach and mushroom frittata is made with free range eggs. We have special tools for cheese-makers, fermenters, and salumists that make some of the less pleasant parts of the job more enjoyable.

Retail

Modern consumers want to know the origins of their food. Be it for animal rights, quality of food, or religious reasons, many people want to know their food was handled according to their beliefs. Buying from producers and wholesalers who use our platform gives you instant access to all the data a customer could ever want. A QR code can answer all their questions about where the steak came from. And if you're using our POS, or have integrated your existing one with out inventory system, we can use kanban levels to automatically reorder when inventory gets low, and keep up to the minute inventory using our ticketing system. You sold a salad, the system sees the tomatoes are now below minimum threshold so an order is placed for the next delivery. Digital Twins allow you to see 2D or 3D representations of your location, with sensors placed in the 3D environment that move and rotate with it. Easily see where problem areas in your store are with our Digital Twins. The food industry should not be dominated by massive conglomerates. You can have the same eCommerce technology, delivery apps, and sensor tech, but owned by YOU, not a Private Equity Fund. But if you still need to get some things from them, we support importing standard GS1 EPCIS 2.0 formatted signed data as well as exporting it, so you can still prove your food's origin.

Consumer

Even if you fall into one of the above categories, you still gotta eat. We have recipes, food safety education, information about your food, and tools to safely forage for shellfish, etc. Make sure you don't get food poisoning from those raw oysters because you didn't have enough ice in your cooler and got stuck in traffic on the way home from the coast. So whether you foraged it or purchased it from a retailer using our system, you can take comfort knowing exactly who had custody of your food, for how long, and what the environment was like. Basically, I want the same info as this episode of Portlandia, but as an app.

(This clip used without permission from anyone, it is not an endorsement of this product by anyone. It's just an entertaining way of showing the level of detail I want. Plus I really like that show.)

Jobs

Please note that we are pre-revenue and so currently not able to pay salaries. We are looking for people who have a passion for food safety and farming. The job market for tech and other industries are a shambles right now, so this is a way some of us are keeping our skills sharp while doing something that we love. If you want to learn about the tech side of food safety, EatSafe will a great place to work. When we start generating revenue, unpaid employees will begin receiving compensation in the order in which they started working for the organization.
We are looking to fill openings for the following positions:

React/Typescript UI Developer

React 19 with redux is our front end technology. You'll be fixing bugs, improving UX, and creating user tours with Joyride to show off the features of the software. Our Digital Twin software uses 3D Scanners using LiDAR to map a location and upload it to our site, and we're always looking to add more data visualization features, this will not be the same old "write a login page for the website" busywork that a lot of internships give you. You will learn new skills and be mentored by people with decades of experience in tech.

Electrical/Embedded Engineer

Improve firmware for existing boards, including adding support for new sensors, and help develop new boards using KiCAD. We work with Nordic chips to design devices that are easy to use and have the features and technology our clients will need for their businesses to succeed. Work with the latest radio technologies and learn from people who've been building IoT devices and writing embedded software for years.

Machine Learning/Data Scientist

Use Machine Learning to analyze IoT data and look for patterns to help predict failures and schedule preventive maintenance to prevent them. Use IoT data about the environment for perishable foods and determine ways to maximize freshness and longevity without sacrificing quality. Pull in GIS data and correlate it to IoT and farm data to predict Best Before dates that take into account the actual product journey instead of being a best guess.

Tech Writer / Product Manager

We have a new “living documentation” tool that will help you create the User Guide and manage the development tasks. You'll work with Client and Client Outreach personnel to understand their needs. You'll work directly with leadership to determine product roadmap, feature priority, and resource planning. We use Agile so, bring your Scrum Master skills, or a desire to learn all about Agile methodologies!

Photographer / Graphic Designer

We need photos and graphics! Photos or farms and food, icons for apps and UI modules. Logos, QR Code surrounds, etc. All sorts of small touches that will make the site look amazing. If you love nature/food photography and are competent with image editing (video editing a plus!) then

Client Outreach

Do you like visiting farms and processing plants and seeing how the sausage is made? Are you good at convincing people to try new things? This job could be for you! You'll need to understand what our product does well enough to explain it to potential customers, provide suggestions for how best to use it in their situation, and show them the value they will get from it. Sounds like something you want to do but worried you don't know how? You can ride along with us as we talk to potential clients and learn on the job.

How to Apply

Send your resume with cover letter about why you want to work for us to internship@eatsafe.tech with the position for which you want to apply in the subject line. If it looks like you had ChatGPT write it, it will not be considered. We want to know why YOU want to work here, from your own brain, not what ChatGPT thinks employers asking that question want you to answer.

Organization Information

GenAI Policy

Our CTO has been a software engineer for over 25 years. He has spent the last few years evaluating Gen AI and coding with LLMs and while they can spit out a working login page 98% of the time, the code quality, performance, and security is NOT up to our standards. The amount of bugs and rework is much higher than just having a competent engineer write good code. Given the rising cost of tokens it just doesn't make financial sense. So while we will not prevent clients from reading their data from Agents, and even make tools available to make that easier for them, we will no longer be using GenAI for internal processes, including image generation like the background image for this page. It looks fine at first glance, but how to they get to that barn with no road? Are they hand carrying everything in and out of it? That's a good example of how GenAI code looks as well, at first glance it seems fine but when you know what to look for, the flaws become obvious.

Additionally, we feel that vibe-coding removes the co-mentorship aspect of working with other engineers, to freely discuss ideas and learn and grow your skill-set, which we believe is vital to long term success of new engineers and Software Engineering as a whole. Therefore, EatSafe does NOT ALLOW VIBE CODING for production software. You may use it for small Proof of Concepts, but the code must be rewritten before going anywhere near production. We have seen too many companies ruined by rogue AI. Just like growing good food takes time, building good software takes time and talented engineers.

Work Life Balance

We are doing this because we love this. Currently nobody in the organization is taking a salary. This is a labor of love. But we love other things as well, our families, our pets, our plants... just getting outside to enjoy nature or a night on the town. We feel that to be your best work self you need more in your life than just work. So especially while we're pre-revenue and not paying salaries, but also once we are able to start paying people, we will encourage you to spend time away from work recharging and renewing your passion to make fresh food available to everyone.

Leadership

We believe that a group that operates with a shared mission of a diverse group of employees will always be superior one that operated on a rigid multi-layered hierarchical command structure dictated by a single person/small group. Our Leadership team has a Vision, and everyone in the organization needs to share in that Vision, but the Mission, how we achieve the Vision, may shift. Every person in the organization will be part of deciding how the Mission evolves over time. As such, we will have a very flat org chart. There will not be 5 layers of middle management between you and the C levels. You will interact directly with everyone in the organization. As such there will not be people in the organization making 1000x your salary. That would be an indication that everyone is not, in fact, considered a leader. This organization is about food, community, and honoring diversity. Anthony Bourdain was a great example of how you can use food to connect with people who are different from you, how you can connect with them over our need for sustenance and use that connection as a building block to find more commonality. He's no longer with us, but we can learn from this and attempt to carry on this tradition of food bringing diverse people together as equals. Every member of the organization will have a unique perspective and can add immense value to the whole, if we allow their voices to be heard.
